Fashion jewelry requires more care to keep it looking beautiful over time. Depending on the type of material it is made from, it is important to follow the instructions below to avoid tarnishing, scratches or breakage.

1. Keep Your Jewelry Dry

It is generally true for all fashion jewelry but especially zinc alloy jewelry that the most important way to keep your jewelry from tarnishing is to keep it dry. Make sure to remove your jewelry before washing dishes, doing laundry, swimming or doing anything else where it will get wet. If it gets wet, dry it off with a soft cloth as soon as possible.

Never use jewelry cleaners on any fashion jewelry as they might cause damage. Also, keep your jewelry free of chemicals, including oils, perfumes and lotions.

2. Keep Your Jewelry Clean

Zinc Alloy

Zinc alloy jewelry should be kept dry and scratch free. If you need to clean it, use a dry, soft cloth to wipe it down.

Sterling Silver

  1. Use a soft toothbrush with a non-abrasive silver polish or dip.
  2. For matte-finished areas, use a paste made of three parts baking soda to one part water.
  3. Use warm water to rinse. (NOTE: Cold or hot water can cause a reaction with the cleaning solution, resulting in discoloration.)
  4. Pat dry with a soft, lint-free cloth.
  5. Never use detergent or bleach as a cleaning agent.

Stainless Steel

  1. Use a soft toothbrush with mild detergent or dish-washing soap, along with warm water.
  2. Use warm water to rinse.
  3. Pat dry with a soft, lint-free cloth.
  4. Never use strong detergent or bleach as a cleaning agent.

3. Store Your Jewelry Properly

To keep your jewelry as free from scratches and scuffs, store it in a jewelry box or pouch when you're not wearing it.

4. Treat Your Jewelry with Care

Some jewelry is quite delicate and care should be taken to not damage or stress the material.

For adjustable rings, adjust the size only when necessary. Frequent adjustments will cause the ring to crack and tarnish quickly. If it contains stones, too much adjustment may loosen the stones, causing them to fall out.
